The Asian Pacific Islander (API) community is the fastest growing population in the United States and California. This rapid growth has not been accompanied by similar growth in the fields of public policy, community service, and politics. In these areas API Americans remain severely underrepresented. For example, only 6 of 120 California state legislators are of API descent.
The vitality and effectiveness of our government depend on strong ties to the people in the community. By increasing diversity, government assumes a richer texture and becomes more responsive to the needs and concerns of people from all ethnic, geographic, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
APYLP depends on the generous donations of time and money from a broad range of supporters – individuals, corporations, and university sponsors who believe in making a difference by giving teenagers attention, new aspirations, and a chance to dream of a better world. Their contributions directly benefit the students.
Youth who enter the program leave with greater pride in their own culture, while respecting that of others. They leave with the discovery of their leadership potential, greater confidence in their abilities and the value of working with others to improve their communities.
With your participation and support, the Asian Pacific Youth Leadership Project will challenge and encourage students to make a difference. Your investment will make a difference in the future of young people – our leaders of tomorrow.
APYLP is a non-profit 501(c)(3), non-partisan organization.
